About the role
We are currently looking for a Design Engineer to join our busy Engineering team to work on the design and development of new products and update of existing products as well as produce design documentation using Autodesk Inventor (2018) 3D CAD and Vault PDM software to create models and drawings and MS Office for build procedures and process documents. As a successful post holder you will ensure that all drawings, Bills of Materials and associated build process documentation are produced in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the Purchasing and Production departments using the in-house ERP software. In this role, you will work to deadlines within internal and external project plans, applying recognised configuration control knowledge to ensure that all documentation is kept up to date and in order.
To be considered for this role you must have a minimum HND in mechanical engineering and/or equivalent experience working in a design/drawing office within a manufacturing engineering environment. You will have good computer skills, including competency in Autodesk Inventor (Autodesk Vault an advantage) and proficiency in Windows and MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel). Good working knowledge of materials (metals) and their specifications, finishes and joining techniques (fasteners, welding, etc.) is a must. This role will require good presentation skills and ability to deliver high spec design and build documentation accurately and concisely. You also must be able to draw to BS8888 standard (ASME Y14.5 an advantage) and apply geometric tolerancing (GDT). We are looking for someone with strong communication skills as you will have to liaise with teams across the business and understand their requirements and processes. Previous experience of CAD/PDM administration will be an advantage, but is not essential.
Key responsibilities
• Create, amend and control new and existing design documentation, Engineering Drawings, Specifications, across the product range.
• Ensure that all documentation (drawings, BOMs, procedures, etc.) are created accurately and kept up to date in accordance with recognised configuration control standards.
• Ensure that the creation of all the design and build documentation is done so in a timely manner and in accordance with the requirements of the project plan.
• Apply own knowledge of engineering materials and processes to aging and obsolescent documentation, in order to keep existing builds up to date.
• Liaise across departments, with production, procurement and sales staff to understand needs regarding drawings, specifications and Bills of Material, etc.
