Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000
The Company
Our client is a well-established engineering manufacturer specialising in the design and build of bespoke packaging, process and production equipment supplied to customers across a range of industrial sectors.
With a strong reputation for delivering practical, right-first-time engineering solutions, the business designs and manufactures custom machinery, automated equipment and specialist process systems tailored to customer requirements.
The engineering team consists of Mechanical and Controls Engineers working collaboratively from concept design through to manufacture and installation.
The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly skilled design department.
This role will suit an engineer who enjoys designing bespoke machinery and solving real-world engineering challenges rather than working on repetitive product modifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design bespoke machinery and equipment using SolidWorks.
- Produce detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
- Develop sheet metal fabrications, machined components and mechanical assemblies.
- Design mechanisms, production equipment and automated systems.
- Work closely with Controls Engineers and Production teams throughout projects.
- Support product development, design improvements and problem-solving activities.
- Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and commercially viable.
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with internal stakeholders.
Suitable Backgrounds
Candidates are likely to have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Packaging machinery
- Process machinery
- Special purpose machinery
- Automated production equipment
- Capital equipment
- Conveyors and material handling systems
- Mixing and process vessels
- Industrial machinery
- Manufacturing equipment
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position.
- Strong SolidWorks experience.
- Experience designing machinery, equipment or complex mechanical assemblies.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes including fabrication and sheet metal design.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
- Strong problem-solving and practical engineering skills.
Desirable
- SolidWorks PDM/Vault experience.
- Experience working on bespoke customer-driven projects.
- Knowledge of automated production systems.
- Experience of process or packaging equipment.
Not Suitable Backgrounds
Whilst all applications will be considered, the client has indicated a preference for candidates from machinery, manufacturing and industrial engineering environments rather than aerospace or defence-focused backgrounds.
